Princes Town Fort and History Get New Life with Help from German Partners
Princes Town in Ghana’s Western Region is getting the attention it deserves. A team from the University of Ghana, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB), and the German Archaeological Institute has been working to make the area’s history easier to access and enjoy.
The project focused on the Gross Fredericksburg Fortress and the home of Ahanta Chief and warrior, John Conny. Both sites are key parts of Ghana’s coastal past.
German Ambassador Daniel Krull visited the town and walked through the fort. He also met with students from the local school, who showed off their art and crafts. “It’s great to see the community connecting with the fort again,” he said. “The energy here is inspiring.”
The visit ended with the launch of a new exhibition. Mr. Essel Blankson, the Acting Executive Director of the GMMB, was there to support the event, even on a weekend. The ambassador thanked him for his time and commitment.
Princes Town isn’t just a historic site—it’s a place full of life, culture, and stories. With the help of these efforts, it’s ready to welcome more visitors looking to explore Ghana’s past.
