ITB Berlin 2025: Egypt Set for Tourism Boom with Major Archaeological Discovery and Grand Museum Opening

Egypt is poised for a tourism surge in 2025, driven by two major developments: the discovery of a long-lost pharaoh’s tomb and the long-awaited full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

For the first time in a century, archaeologists have uncovered the tomb of a famous pharaoh near the Valley of the Kings. The find, confirmed by Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities, is the most significant since Howard Carter unearthed Tutankhamun’s burial site in 1922. Experts believe the discovery will provide new insight into ancient Egyptian history.

Meanwhile, the Grand Egyptian Museum is set to fully open its doors on July 3, 2025. Located near the Pyramids of Giza, it will be the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization. The museum will display more than 100,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of Tutankhamun’s treasures. Advanced technology, interactive displays, and virtual reality exhibits aim to offer an immersive experience for visitors. Over 300,000 people have already explored parts of the museum during its pre-opening phase.

Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, highlighted the country’s commitment to sustainable tourism and strengthening ties with key markets. Germany remains Egypt’s largest source of tourists, with 1.7 million Germans visiting in 2024, marking a 5% increase from the previous year. In total, 15.7 million international travelers arrived in Egypt, with officials now targeting 30 million visitors annually by 2030.

Beyond its ancient wonders, Egypt continues to attract travelers seeking adventure, nature, and wellness experiences. The Red Sea remains a top destination for diving and water sports, while desert safaris and cultural tours offer diverse attractions. The country is also promoting its wellness tourism, with natural hot springs and mineral-rich waters drawing visitors to places like Siwa Oasis, Bahariya, and Aswan.

With a historic discovery and a world-class museum set to open, Egypt is reinforcing its status as a must-visit destination in 2025.
