It may sound surprising, but not everyone knows how to switch off their iPhone — especially if they’ve just upgraded to a newer model. Apple has changed the method over the years, and it’s no longer just about holding a single button.
Here’s how to do it on different iPhone models:
1. For iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, 14, and newer
1.Press and hold the Side button and Volume Up or Down button at the same time.
2.Keep holding until you see the “Slide to Power Off” screen.
3.Swipe the slider to the right to turn off the phone.
2. For iPhone 6, 7, 8, and SE (2nd generation)
1.Press and hold the Side (or Top) button until the Power Off slider appears.
2.Swipe the slider to the right to switch it off.
3. Using Settings (Hidden Method Many Don’t Know)
This works for all iPhones:
1.Open the Settings app.
2.Go to General.
3.Scroll down and tap Shut Down.
4.Swipe the Power Off slider to turn off the phone.
Extra Tips
•To restart your iPhone, simply turn it off and press the Side button again until you see the Apple logo.
•If your phone is frozen, you can perform a force restart (different from powering off). The method depends on your iPhone model.
Fun Fact: Many people don’t know about the Settings method — it’s handy if your buttons are not working properly.
